This enhances the likelihood of finding lyrics for less common or niche songs.

Additionally, iLyrics offers two operational modes: Automatic Update and Manual Mode. Automatic updates will immediately insert retrieved lyrics into the track’s metadata, though any existing lyrics will be replaced. Manual mode grants users control, allowing them to preview and confirm updates before proceeding. The application is accessed via the Tools menu within iTunes, appearing as a dedicated “Lyrics Viewer.”

Performance

iLyrics was specifically developed for iTunes 7 and 8, and compatibility with newer versions is not assured. The reliance on online lyric databases generally returns accurate results, with quick searches and fast embedding for most tracks. However, for less precisely labeled songs, occasional mismatches can occur, especially in automatic mode. In those cases, manual mode helps reduce errors by allowing user verification. Since development on iLyrics has ceased, there is a risk of declining accuracy or functionality if external lyrics sources change.

User Experience

Installing and activating iLyrics is straightforward for users with supported versions of iTunes. The clean interface offers an uncomplicated workflow: select a song, fetch lyrics, and review results. For users with large libraries, the automatic mode is convenient, but those concerned about accuracy may prefer to work song by song. The software integrates smoothly into iTunes’ existing navigation structure, maintaining a consistent user experience.

Limitations

The largest limitation is unquestionably iLyrics’ discontinued status. This leaves the tool unsupported for future iTunes or Windows updates, and with online lyric repositories subject to change, reliability may diminish over time.
